I`ve bought one of them medion MD40814 DivX Multi-region DVD player.Sof ar it`s played every thing i`ve put in in or so i thought.

I put the dvd rip of heelboy in it and it would`nt play it.It say`s that it does not suppot the QPEL codec.

Is there anyway you can update the software or firmware if that`s what it`s called.???

    Thanks in advance.

    never heard of qpel plugin.

anyway ill look on google in a sec for firmware updates.
but if there is nothing or the update doesn't fix the problem then best idea would be to re-encode the film to divx and re-burn it.

    What format was your download?
I got Hellboy DVD-R from Suprnova and it plays no problem on mine.

@abu, AFAIK it is only available in Europe.

@Rossco, it's a fairly new player, people are unrealistic to expect immediate firmware updates. In any case, the complaint is about multi-session DVD-R which has only recently been officially supported, I think it is unlikely that many players will do any better.

should have got the kiss or even better the dvp642, it supports some xvid, some of the hight bitrate xvid it skips(doesn't even play)
but with already two firmware updates for the dvp642, I'm sure it can only get better
the kiss player has no problems playing xvid, but its 300.00+ against the 70.00 Phillips

good luck don't think any of the standalone players support QPEL..Its very processor intensive and I don't think there up to it.The dvp642 doesn't..Guess your going to have to convert it thought you got away from converting right haha...

first correct answer in this thread so far.

there is no qpel plugin or qpel codec. it is an encoding/decoding option of some codecs like divx and xvid. stand-alone players do not support it, and most people are wise enough to not encode with it. chalk it up to the person who released it being a basic dumb ass who didn't think about hardware compatibility when he made the file.

So does this mean that`s it`s a one off or is it gonna be happening more and more.Is best just to re-encode it to divx. And if so what`s the best software to use.???
