Questions about Half-Life 2

This thought just occured to me. I've pre-loaded all of the half-life 2 thingys on steam, but i got to thinking, what if my computer dies in a few months, will i be able to redownload the software on my new formatted computer? Would I even know my CD key ever? Also, say i decide to buy it now because i'm worried about that, how do i remove the preloaded version off my computer? I know some of you are hl-2 junkies so i thought you could help

Theres no uninstaller put on your computer for the game? If not then I guess maybe manually installing?
