Winamp + a complete codec update appears to have cleared up about 95% of the problem. Thanks Azzz.

I expect that the rest of the problem may be track related. I will let you know.

The problem has returned 'big time'. Records now repeat themselves for short spells when it 'jumps'.

I have contacted the place i purchased the computer from. god knows when I'll get a reply.
