weird trouble with mkv file

hi,

i have this weird situation happening whenever i play an mkv file. this mkv file has three different audio streams, one english and the rest are foreign.

u see, i can't open it with Windows Media Player 10, so i use Videolan 0.7.2 instead. however, videolan can only play the audio (i can hear the english audio), no video visible

then i tried my trusty old mplayer2, i got it open with video alright, with audio as well. but when i switch to english audio, i hear nuthin.

in the end, i have to use both mplayer2 and videolan together just to watch this mkv file. i'm using the latest klite codec pack. pls help

Have you installed any of the stream switchers in the pack ? Have had trouble with those previously so I skip em (and haven't had any use of them anyways)

i use the stream switchers available within the players themselves.
with videolan, the audio wasn't a problem but with mplayer2, it is

The Matroska splitter is build-in in Media Player Classic. But that one is a tiny bit older than the stand-alone version. So you could try to disable the build-in one: Options > Filters

i'm using windows included mplayer2 btw

mplayer2 is not the same player as MCP. (and most importantly it's not made by m$) try using mpc from the codec pack instead.

hi, i tried the media player classic u told me...unfortunately, it is of the same result as well, no video; only sound.

any ideas?

what file is it ? most mkv is anime ^^

If you check the filter section while you have the file started, does it show multiple stream-switchers ? Did you try disabling the internal mkv splitter ? (in mpc)

if you can, grab a screenshot of your filters while playing the file and post it here.

hi, i tested another mkv and it works...on all players!
it seems that only this mkv file is problematic, now i can't even see the video anymore.

i read that matroska is used to encapsulate various videos and audios together into a single file. how do i split it all up?
perhaps i can pin-point the problem to the video codec itself from there. GSpot failed to identify anything from this file (other than being a matroska file).

Yes, matroska is just a container (as the name suggests).

You can split the streams up in virtualdub (suggest virtualdubmod http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net) Streams -> Stream list, then save the streams you want.
