I really can't see it being spinal related, it's concetrated in the back of my thigh.
Dunno what it is, I know it's painful and annoying

Sciatica:
One or more of the following sensations may occur as a result of sciatica:
Pain in the rear or leg that is worse when sitting
Burning or tingling down the leg
Weakness, numbness or difficulty moving the leg or foot
A constant pain on one side of the rear
A shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up
Depending on where exactly the nerve is pinched, people experience different symptoms.
The feeling in your leg is called "referred" pain, as your brain tells you that the pain is in your legs or butt, but the actual point of injury a bulging disc hitting a nerve root in your back.
The reason it does this is that it is hitting sensory fibers that are coming from the parts of your leg effected.
The sciatic nerve contains fibers from the L4, L5, S1, S2, S3 nerve roots. Therefore compression of the nerve can cause symptons in the areas in the diagram labeled with that designation.
Your body is actually kind of stupid. Look at the L5 on the foot. If a disc in your back is hitting a sensory fiber that is coming from your foot, your brain only knows that that nerve has been "activated", and it tells you that the source of the pain is your foot, even though it is your back.
Since the sciatic nerve contains nerve roots from many levels, you we feel pain from your ass to your foot, particularly in back.
Heavy lifting is a great way to get both a hernia and sciatica. REst and anti-inflamatory medications usually cure you.
I changed dermatome picture because it was messing with the page layout.

Aren't we in the trust tree, thingey?
I don't believe I sniggered at that pic
Thanks Hobbes dude Interesting, I guess everything really is pointing to that, altho I have been resting for 2 weeks and have had a course of anti flame for my surgery, but my leg is steadily getting worse day by day, the only contrast is it hurts when I'm up and using the muscles, it's fine 85% of the time I'm sitting/laying.

A herniated disc can take 6-8 weeks to resorb on it's own. Best take it easy and stay AWAY from any surgeon who wants to cut on you.Originally Posted by Jon L. Obscene
