    U.S. closes Syrian embassy

The U.S. has closed its embassy in Damascus on Thursday for security reasons, the mission said in a website statement.

“The embassy will be closed to the public on Thursday, November 4, 2004 to enable it to reassess its security posture,” it said.

An official at the embassy refused to give any further details regarding the reasons of the closure. He said that the embassy will be closed just for one day, although the mission is usually shut on Fridays and Saturdays.

There has been tension between Syria and the United States over the past few months, and the relation between the two countries have long been strained.

In May the U.S. imposed economic sanctions on Syria, claiming it was supporting terrorism and preparing to produce weapons of mass destruction, charges that were strongly denied by Syria.

In October, the UN, backed by the United States and France, submitted a resolution demanding Syria to withdraw all its troops from Lebanon and end what it called as foreign interference in country’s affairs.

,I agree with Bush and Blair. lets go into Syria and Iran and Saudi and get rid of all the terrorists and make the Middle East a lot safer.

While we are at it lets go in to Israel and get rid of their weapons of mass destruction and push them back inside the 1948 Mandate borders.

Whats that Darling? "Wake up. Your havering again".:crying:

The U.S can't go into Syria can they? Wouldn't they just be proving the opinions that lie behind the U.S hatred? Does the Arab world have a credible armed force to resist them?

    The Arab world? No

The Arab Leaders.... could totally destroy the US economy if they put their minds to it. However, they spend all their time playing games with their populations, so that they can stay in power...

If the Arab Leaders decide that the USA is a threat to THEM... then they will join their populations in their opinions, and not just in lip service.
