Some of the fastest home cablemodems have their caps set at 4 mbps down and 1 mbps up -- T-1's are fixed at ~1.5 mbps down and up (some varients have 1.5 mbps shared BETWEEN the 2&#33

So... cablemodems can be even faster than T-1 lines!

Top end for most cablemodems is they're limited to the 10 mbps ethernet connection that they have -- however some are capable of speeds up to 42 mbps.

I've heard DSL maxes out around 8 mbps -- and that's with a very short connection to the central office...
