Probably the usual problem of codecs. Make sure you have a good codec pack installed such as K Lite Codec Pack 2.01 or SLD 1.5 Pro Beta 6. Also are using a decent player such as BS Player, Zoom or Core? Avoid using Windows Media Player, as it's crap for DivX/Xvid encoded films.
