Thread: Graphics cards

  1. #1
Anyone heard about the: Sapphire Radeon 9550 128MB DDR AGPx8 TV-Out DVI-I Lite Retail Box?

I havnt heard anything abou hese graphics cards really and need a cheap(ish) DX9.0 graphics card. Will i see an iomprovment over a MX400?

From what I've read it's comparable to the 9200 series cards from ATI and the 5200 from nVidia. Definately not a high performing card or a card you'd like to use for serious gaming.
What were you looking to use the card for? Are you into gaming?

What are the rest of your specs?
There's no point in saving up for a high end card really if the rest of your system will just bottleneck it's speed anyway.

    AMD Athlon 2500
    512mb PC2700 Ram
    160gb Hard Drive
    Geforce 4 Mx440
    WIndows Xp SP1

I dont find the Mx440 slow at all really. it plays most of the games i want at medium the only reason im getting a new one is becuase he MX440 doesnt have Pixall Shared 2.0 this means it simply wont play many new games. however the ones it does play seem to play as well as i would expect.

Okay, well I'm sure you would see some performance increase over the MX440, not sure how much, but not a huge amount I don't think. Whether it justifies the price tag or not is up to you.

anything after 7000 series is good, but never ever buy a 7000 series they suck big time.

In general it does slightly outperform the 5200, however there are a few tasks in which the 5200 will come out on top of the 9550.
    You are correct though.

    Elmo is always correct!!!

actually, i was considering that card for my system...something simply to play cs. read all the reviews from newegg and that's basically what the owner of the card had to say
