Well, France, Britain and Ireland are very different countries. If you can afford it, I'd go visit for a while before picking one.

things are quiet until hitler decides he'd like to invade russia
    so, he does
the russians are like "OMG WTF D00DZ, STOP TKING"
and the germans are still like "omg ph34r n00bz"
the russians fall back, all the way to moscow
and then they all begin h4xing, which brings on the russian winter
the germans are like "wtf, h4x"

I dunno if your serious or not, however its actually quite difficult for an American to move permanently to the UK...

If you have lots of $$, you can move to start a company or invest.

Can come as the "Representative" of a large company.

Students can come and work certain jobs.

You can get a Work Visa, however all Jobs have to be offered to EU nationals before they can be offered to others...and its the company that employs you that does the paperwork, so not many will go through the hassel.

Easiest by far is to marry an EU citizen.

marriage doesn't automatically grant entry into every country, the uk certainly has no problems refusing entry without the proper paperwork. ( i know i am going to get comments about asylum seekers etc. however i am talking proper channels ).

I would suggest that language be a big factor in deciding. I have lived and worked in various countries and having only a limited vocabulary of a nations language is a huge disadvantage.
The UK is a wonderful place to live, however as the saying goes "the grass is always greener on the other side" so don't expect every UK citizen to agree .
I confess to having little experience of Eire for day to day living.

Don't expect Eutopia from any place you end up in, and above all be prepared for that nations people to be different to yourself in beliefs and attitudes. That said generally the countries you speak of are little different in daily living....some things are much better...some worse.

I find it funny that so many people are talking of moving from here when, for most, nothing in their day to day lives has changed from 4-8 years ago that can be attributed to the President.

    My motto

    STFU!!! and GTFO!!!

    then....

Some say it's because of Bush...mostly those people are just blowing hot air.... some want to move for other reasons.... it may have nothing to do with liking or not liking the USA

If it's because of Bush...that equals hot air.
