please can some one tell me how to make vb look in a databse for the user name and see if the password that they entered is the same and if it isnt then return a error message, if it is then display their name on a label (on a splash screen) (to show for 5 seconds) then show thier name in the title bar

But your statement about "not being a guest" is in fact untrue. You are after all not registered and therefore a guest.
However:
You have a split personality.
You are a young male.
You are illiterate (you said it yourself)
You are bored.

You know my methods people - now start adding to the list and enjoy the hunt. The Mods allready know, unless he is behind a proxy server of course. I would like to add however that normal users cannot have a chance of finding out unless by simple deduction - so be fair and give more clues.
