How do you reformat with an HP pc??

Thats why Hp is gay. It doesnt give a damn rescue disk, it keeps an iso image of the xp disc on a seperate hard drive.....

Actually HP/Compaq is pretty good so far as locating specific drivers for your system. If it is a store bought package, you can usually locate the drivers by entering in the specific make and model of your system on HP's site.

I purchased my Compaq as a complete bundle from Walmart. After awhile, I could nolonger take all the additional crap that HP/Compaq installed upon it. So I completely wiped the harddrive clean, including the recovery partition and installed a fresh version XP Professional. Has been running much more smoothly ever since. Using Partition Magic 8, I created my own "recovery partition" as well.

XP's built-in and default drivers will be more than adequate for your HP system until you can browse their site and download the specific ones originally intended for the hardware in the meantime.

I would recommend wiping the drive clean and reformatting to anyone who has purchased any HP/Compaq system. Directly out-of-the-box, the system and that HP specific crap software that comes bundled in, will test positive for ad/spyware. You can use just about any decent scanning application to verify that.

Not too certain about older or previous year's models, however those that come equipped with a cd burner of any sorts, will have software built-in that will allow you to create those rescue disks on your own.

Otherwise, if it is an older model, you will have to make a request for those disks directly from HP. And I believe there is a charge doing for that.

You get to install that image from, say F10.
There's a meantion usually what to press to get to the "Setup" after
bios is done its thing.

Even if you have a CD try to fix the OS from it,
it will most likely just install the image from hidden partition.

Use Partition Magic or similar to take a look on your hidden partitions.

Its easy solution to get to the square one, OS-wise,
but if you ever change hardware you might be
in for a suprise whilst installing it.

Edit: I should add it's good for Gradma, tho or new computer user's .because they buy their computers bundled with printer software ,and other goodies! I just never liked the idea.

Yea my computer is pretty new, It was bought this summer 2004, at Sams Club.

I dont like the bundled shiz either
