What is the relationship between RAM memory, and Page file?

I've completely disabled it and been fine (512mb of ram).
but i wouldn't recomend that as some programs NEED a page file to run.

I have being meaning to try the new option in Diskeeper 9.0 504.0 . It sets up your page file, but you can't change back, without formating . So I'v been heisitant to try .
