I installed a new DVD-R drive, set it to slave, ( I have a CDR) and then plugged in the power and the serial but it did not show up on the PC?
Any ideas?

reboot
Yes I did that. I double checked to make sure the connections were secure, set as IDE slave. It opens and closes but is not recognized.
It did however fall from lying on its side (when I was putting screws in) to and ended flat on the desk...only about 4-5 inches though.
I have a SATA HDD in case that makes any difference.
It does not show up in the bios as either primary nor secondary device either.

You say you have a CD-R? Is it really set as Master? Maybe they are now both set as Slave. One has to be Master.
