It's primarly for CAD(solidworks & autocad) and DCC(Maya) workstations. The majority of the price goes to testing the card with various professional software. If you go to the nvidia website they have a list of "Professional Certifications."
The Quadro 4 I have gets pretty decent fps on games but the cards really meant for opengl apps. The best gaming card would be the 6800 ultra since it canbe run in sli mode.
