Does anyone know how to delete the index.dat file for XP. If this were win 98 you could do it through DOS, but since you cannot access dos in xp I think there has got to be a way of doing it. When I run my norton clean sweep it shows still 300kb it cannot clean. Norton reps say that it is 9 times out of 10 a corrupt index.dat file.

Use Spider. Run it then reboot. It will erase index.dat files before Windoze starts.
