Thread: Thermal pad for heatsink???

  1. #1
I just got a new heatsink and on the bottom it has a tab to remove and under it is a little pad... Do I need to remove it to apply a thermal grease? and do I need to use a grease can I just use the exsisting pad?

You can use the pad, but you'll get much better results with something like arctic silver.

Also, you'll need to remove the pad now if you decide to go with paste, it'll be much harder if you decide to go with thermal paste further along the road and you've let the pad sit there and get burned in.
