    ok, so bottom line: if i end the task now (or restart; i might have to), will one of my movies become corrupted?

    well i did it. can't find anything wrong, so i wont worry about it. thanks for your help guys.

    Good , I use to have that problem with an early version of DK. I would run chkdsk first, then try defragging again and let it finish .

    most defraggers now days copy the file its defraging
    then after the copied file has been alocated to a nice free space
    it deletes the old fragged file

    so even if there was power out im sure nothin catastrophic will happen

    read about the security procedures or file integrity

    i kno O&O dose this
    u can even see it do it while its defraggin

    its quite a common technique
    and im quite supriesed no one else knew about this

    im not sayin to any one its ok to power off ya PC while its defraggin
    im just sayin dont loose ya rag if a power off dose happen
