I really enjoyed Windtalkers, it was a little sentimental but
    overall a good movie.

The THin red line is pretty good but i dont know if you can find it!!

Cross of Iron by Sam Peckinpah. A classic film about German soldiers on the Russian Front during the latter stages of the Second World War. Slow motion violence abounds. Strong anti-war message as well!

Braveheart was a war movie, not a Guns Blazing type but still thought it was a good war movie.

Flight of the Intruder was alright, but my favorite war'esque movie would probably be The Final Countdown, it is where a modern day (80's) aircraft carrier goes back in time to find themselves right in the middle of the Pearl Harbor Invasion.

I would have to say the science fiction aspect raises this one above most and does it with a bit of style.

For grainy realism I would have to suggest as some others movies like Hamburger Hill or Apocalypse Now. However the Bridge On The River Kwai has always been a favorite of mine.

One of my favorite World War movies is A Midnight Clear, excellent movie.

Also try Bravo Two Zero 1999, a british film similar to Black Hawk Down, pretty good.

My two favs would have to be Apocalypse Now (brilliant in every way) and A Thin Red Line (the cinematography is is extraordinary, and I can't remember his name, but that main guy did an excellent job in his role) B)
