Um... well, to backup DVDs? Having to choose between the two, I'd have to say... both.

first I copy the dvd to my HD with DVD Decrypter then I shrink it with DVD Shrink

I use SmartRipper for ripping and VirtualDubMod for converting to AVI... So, neither.

wish i could use smartripper but it uses DeCSS and illegal in the states =\ lol
