    Maybe 'cos the Japanese didn't fit their idea of how the human race should be, or 'cos it'd be an excellent way of eliminating a possible future rival, what with the Japanese already having started a war against the US.

    A 'clever' Germany would have just sat back and let the US do their work for them, however, as they proved with the invasion of Russia, they were not that clever so who knows.

    Obviously a theoretical (sp?) question but one could argue that, perhaps, USA would not have wanted to fight a war in Europe as well as the Pacific if Germany hadn't of declared war first. Though please correct me if my history is wrong on this.

    At the very least, it would have made USA think twice before embarking on a European campaign...
