But that only applies to software that doesn't require much RAM.
Stuff like photoshop and some games will run faster with more RAM, even if the access times are slightly slower.
I know this from experience.
And what that test shows is how fast the ram is, specifically, not what the system can do, I think.

Ok but I did state, at the beginning of this thread;Originally Posted by SnnYandBut why do you think you need more than 512 MB? Is there something that you run that requires that amount of RAM?Which went completly unanswered. If you press Ctrl Atl Del and look at the Performance tab then you'll be able to see Available Physical RAM. How much does it show when things seem to be slow? If there is some available then the problem isn't the amount of RAM.
Ah sorry, that's a good couple of questions.
The other thing is, we don't even know what mobo, CPU or anything else about that guy's system for that matter.
@foot loose, why don't you tell us more about the system and answer my previous questions?
Oh btw... Do you have a DVD burner?

i was using around 50gig and my puter started to slow down, so i del around 20gig and defraged and my puter speeded up big time.
should i get a second hdrive?? one to use as storage and the outher for just the os?

How much stuff is stored on your hard drive should make no difference in computer speed...just defragmenting it should be enough.
I heard this tip somewhere that I forgot about:
Use your computer for a day or so without turing it off and just run your normal programs and games, do whatever you normally do.
Then at the end of the day press ctrl-alt-del and look at the performance tab. Apparantly if the total commit charge is higher than the amount og "total physical memory" then it is recomended you get more ram.
Not entirely sure if this is right but it sounds legit.
