Found this on a tweaking site, any ideas what it actually does?

    "Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks"

Appartantly you type it into the run command box and hey presto faster computer.
    Yeah bllx more like.
Just wondered if there was a techie out there that knows what it does.

Using XP I presume? This frees up any idle tasks running in the background so that XP devotes its full attention to what you want it to do.

Seems to make my processer go for it at 100% for a few minutes, which to me doesn't seem like calming things down. I'm using XPHome.

Guess it would depend on what you use it for. For instance if you use diskkeeper to defrag and you want the system to pay more attention to that task, by running that command the system will idle out the other processes. In other words, which would a kid pay more attention to candybar or vegetables. So in sense, its just giving more attention (processor time) than to the others. Whether it's intention is to speed up the system, not likely.

It's a practice used by some when bench marking, helps to get a more accurate mark.
