IE7 for Windows XP (SP2) Beta: Summer 2005
Thanks to an alert at the featured sites community website, we are at liberty to share news on the new version of IE, of which so far, will only be available for Windows XP SP2 customers. Speaking at the Keynote Address at RSA Conference, Gates confirmed it:

Were installing Windows XP SP2 companywide on over 50,000 desktops because we recognize that its security enhancements are significant. As the frequency of attacks against computer systems increases, its becoming critically important to have our systems protected against hackers, viruses and other security risks, said Joseph Martella, director of End User Computing, Product Engineering at Merrill Lynch.

Building on those advancements, Gates announced Internet Explorer 7.0, designed to add new levels of security to Windows XP SP2 while maintaining the level of extensibility and compatibility that customers have come to expect. Internet Explorer 7.0 will also provide even stronger defenses against phishing, malicious software and spyware. The beta release is scheduled to be available this summer.

Gates also announced the Windows Update beta to start mid-march, and a final version of the Windows Anti-Spyware tool to be made available to all customers of licensed Windows at no charge.

    beautiful....
eveyone thats moved on to SP2 will be moving on to IE7
making it more widespread than IE6....
    making it the biggest target....
meaning all the script kiddies will leave IE6 alone....
making my SP1/IE6 more secure than your SP2/IE7

I am just a worthless liar. I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you. I will chew it up and leave.
I will work to elevate you just enough to bring you down.

Damn you Mr Gates for your habitual vagueness.

For those of us who aren't residents of Redmond Washington or even the US of A, when exactly is Summer 2005?
A date would be better than a season, even if it just gives us the month of release...
