Thread: Which bittorrent client do you use?

  1. #121
Bitcomet and only Bitcomet. I used Azureus, but I prefer to leech/seed in background, so I need the fastest client. If you have a lot of active torrents for several gigs Azureus will waste to much memory (and memory leaks too), so i switched to Bitcomet.

  2. BitTorrent   -   #122
I use Azureus for how custumizable it is...
I find it the best by far.

Bitcomet by far.. and they just got the update a few days ago. Now you can dl trackerless just like azureus. Azureus is such a resource hog, which is why i changed to bitcomet and I've never gone back.

  4. BitTorrent   -   #124
    Azureus - Go Froggie.

  5. BitTorrent   -   #125
I just switched to bitcomet because i have some downloading speed problems with azureus.

  6. BitTorrent   -   #126
Usually I use ABC, I also like Azureus, but I can't figure out how to seed with it I'm sure I could if I had the patience to sit down and actually check it out, but whatever, ABC works just fine. I do use Azureus when I only want to download part of the torrent.

ABC can also download parts of a torrent....

When the torrent is running, double click it, go to the File Info tab and you can right click on files to choose the priority for downlad (first, normal, never etc)...

From memory, this is in ABC 3 and beyond....

    Azureus

IMO the true heavyweight of the BitTorrent clients ...

  9. BitTorrent   -   #129
Azureus is by far my preferred client

I just got the latest ABC and it's awesome, specially with the download allocation with batch files, i used to have to use BitTornado especially for that, but now i don't.

I've been using ABC for ages anyway.

Pardon me but dont you think there are too many unconstructive posts here like saying "Azureus the best for me." or something like that?

I don't know about Java, well besides it being a resource hog, but I use Azureus because it only uses one port, can limit download and upload speeds, keeps track of universal ratios, AND that blue frog looks pretty dashing on my laptop.

^^^These post are constructive for a `Which BitTorrent client do you use poll' ??

Ok, to make you guys happy, Azureus is my choice for numerous reasons. It's open source, I like all the tweakable options, I like the detail put into the client, I have absolutely no javaw.exe cpu/mem use probs, ...

... & that little blue frog is rather appealing.

Like I said ... Azureus The heavyweight champ of BitTorrent clients.

ohhh .. Did I mention Azureus was open source =P

Why dont some sites allow BitComet?

On BitComet, I found this posted on another forum: http://slyck.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9923

    Quote:
BitComet was banned from KickAssAnime because of the following reason:

"ok here is exactly why. BitComet reports false data to the tracker and to other peers. it reports that it is sending out way more data to peers than it actually is. so by banning it, and forcing the leechers to use clients that dont cheat, we get a healthier torrent. because (not sure if everyone knows) a healthy torrent works on the rewards system most of the time. meaning its like "ok ill send you a piece of this torrent, then you tell me when you sent it to someone else, and ill send you another." Bitcomet, as soon as it recieves a piece, weither it sends or not, reports back to the client that it recieved it from that it sent it to another peer. by removing the leechy client by nature, the torrent gets healthier, and the people who use real clients, and try to go 1:1 on the torrents get the complete torrent faster. once again if you want to complain to me about the decision to ban bitcomet, email me @ [removed email address] i would be happy to rant back."

So users of BitComet are all leachers, or is there a setting that can be turned off?

  21. BitTorrent   -   #141
    I use MLdonkey at http://mldonkey.berlios.de/

"MLdonkey is a powerful P2P application for accessing the Edonkey2000 network as well as a few others like FastTrack, Bittorrent and Gnutella2.
The opensource MLdonkey p2p client is mainly being developed for Linux/Unix, but is also compiled and running on Windows and even MacOS X."

MLdonkey can be controlled from a GUI, browser interface or the commandline.

Most of the GUI interface is for the Edonkey2000 network but bittorrent commands to start using a torrent file etc can be entered in the MLdonkey browser interface.

I can access MLdonkey from my browser at work to review download/upload status, kick off new downloads etc.

    It works well for me.

    I´m using Bitcomet.

    I´ll try MLdonkey.
    We´ll see

I don't think that's what was meant to be implied....but the data it reports is inacurate, which I think is the bottom line as to why bitcomet is often banned.

  24. BitTorrent   -   #144
Currently I'm using Bitlord; but I'm thinking about moving to Azureus.

used azureus for 2 years, but it took to much cpu and mem so i've changed to bitspirit

  35. BitTorrent   -   #155
bittornado goes on fine with my torrents dls

  36. BitTorrent   -   #156
Bitcomet 0.56 works fine for me

  37. BitTorrent   -   #157
Bitcomet 0.57 works great, uses little mem, & its fast with loads of features

I tried Azureus, but it took up more mem & I am too used to Bitcomet, though I still use DC++ from time to time for the things I cant find on any trackers

BitComet 0.59, as it now respects 'private' key in torrents (and as such is not banned anymore, anywhere TMK) and is much lighter on my resources than previous versions, or any javabloat clients (love the C++). ;-)

Mainly Azureus at the moment. Though I tend to use Bitcomet when I'm running other programs (Azureus tends to slow down stuff really slow).

    It is time...

...for the end to be stopped.

  40. BitTorrent   -   #160
Switched from Azureus to BitLord due to the excessive CPU use of java. From what I've read above, gonna try BitCommet...
Strange that BitLord isn't on the list of clients for the poll
