i downloaded a winrar archive off emule, but can't open it cos it says it's unkown format or damaged.
how can i repair it if at all?

browse about in winrar,
theres a "repair archive" option,
IF the archive has a recovery record,
that should do it
if not...if the file was in a set of archives, i.e. rar00, rar01, etc.
take note of the damaged archive and re-download it
but as emule has hash checking...
i'm pretty sure its just a fkd archive
