You should specify bytes or bits. Because if you download 40k bits per seconds than thats only 5k bytes per seconds.

So you could be right. Why not, to help us all out, go to bandwidthplace.com and take their speed test, and post your results.

Is it possible to uncap a 56k modem?
I would like to know.

And i have got speeds of 30-40k on the 56k but found out this was because of a fake file which had blank frames?

im on 56k but if you have cable broadband heres a program that will uncap it, but be warned you might lose your connection

your mobem is 56Kilo bits wish is the same a 7kilo bytes
one byte is 8 bits

so when you download at 40k, you downlad at 40kbits not 40kbytes

Looking back on this thread, I wonder if the original poster has a DSL connection, but maybe he thinks its a 56k. They both work over the phone lines so I suppose it could be possible to confuse the two, especially if you are a newbie. Like supernewbie. No, more like a mega-super-newbie.
