What is with the American (and other countries) way of writing a date?

Here, today is the 10th of March 2005, written "10/03/2005"

In america and some other places you write 03/10/05

    Why put the month first?
It goes up, the day is smallest time scale, then month, then year.
Same as time, "20 minutes past 4" , not 4:20, that sounds stupid.

Not having a pop, I'm just wondering where the logic comes from to put the month before the day?

It was spose to be catchy?

What about before that? it's always been the same, I just wondered what logic there is to it.

    d-m-yr
    could be seen as
    da-mn-year
which is something europeans are known to say when depressed - "DaMn Year and i'm DaMn Yer ass"

    yet in the usa
    m-d-yr
    could be seen as
    mo-d-year
possibly interpretted to - "this is a Mod Year(again) and where gonaa Mod Yer ass"

ok i'll stfu now - just trying to find some kinda of logic

because when you write the date you go Month Date, year. (March 10, 2005)

So it would only make sense to do it that same way when writing it all in number form wouldn't it? (03/10/2005)
