problem with half-life2, counter strike

can someone please help me with this. i bought half-life2 when it 1st came out, been playing counterstrike. had to format and reinstall windows, and when i tried to reinstall half-life and enter my cd key (the one that came with the game) it said that my key was invalid cuz it was a duplicate key. is there anyway i can play or reset my cd key without sending $10.00 to washington from british columbia with the key i have and proof of purchase?

hi dave, no was not even asked about an email address, just entered my cd key and it said that the key i had was a duplicate key and therefore invalid.

try sending the key to ur email. (retrieve login/pass)

Right do this:

Uninstall Half Life 2 and Steam.
Install Steam, when asked enter your account details that you entered when you first brought the game.
Then Steam will load and show Half Life 2 in my games menu.
Then install Half Life 2.
Play!
