I've seen alot of people reading that book...What's the deal?
Can someone tell me what/why that book is so popular or controversial?

Well, it's fiction. A lot of people seem to miss that.
things are quiet until hitler decides he'd like to invade russia
so, he does
the russians are like "OMG WTF D00DZ, STOP TKING"
and the germans are still like "omg ph34r n00bz"
the russians fall back, all the way to moscow
and then they all begin h4xing, which brings on the russian winter
the germans are like "wtf, h4x"

I picked it up the day it came out on paperback. Good stuff, some of the things are true in it (divine proportion)- but not the "main thing" of course.

A good story will always have some element of familiarity or reference to give the appearance of truth.
I can't comment specifically about truths in the Davinci Code as I haven't read it.
I have read the book, and it's very entertaining.
Like Frederick Forsyth's novels, there's just enough FACT to make the whole thing more believable.
Dan Brown's Angels & Demons is a similarly good read.
