I have two files that i'm not sure that they should be on my computer, they are:

    c:\windows\system32\mnsvcsp.exe
    c:\windows\system32\mnsvcsp.dll

most of the files in this folder were last modified in August last year, but these two files on the 5th March, when I think I might have aquired a virus. mnsvcsp.exe is running in task manager, and I don't remember seeing it before.

could someone else using windows XP check to see if they also have these files?

    thanks

Do you reckon that I should delete them, because I think that they might be a virus

They seem to ring a bell with me but not sure what they are- don't delete them.
Run a virus scan first having updated your virus software.
Why do you think you have a virus?

Have you got messenger installed- could that be those?

    goodluck

You'll probably have to boot up in safe mode to clean it, make sure you have latest patches for your Norton or whatever anti-virus you have.

Whenever I have doubts about a file I rename it so it becomes temporarily unusable. ie... if its an exe I rename to exb and dll to dlb.

If it turns out to be a valid file required by a good program then I can just rename it again.

If it's a runnning process then stop it first and run msconfig to remove it from the boot sequence.

Sometimes you have to do this first then rename it after the reboot but its safer than deleting when you are not sure.

Running a virus scan, plus a program like "ad-aware" for trojans and a good firewall program are absolute musts today, but i'm sure you already know this.
