I will answer your question with several questions.

What's wrong with the AV you use now? You are using one, right?
Have you tried any of the popular brands of AV out there?
What features do you want from your AV?
Has any particular brand of AV given problems on your system in the past?
Do you want to pay for the AV, and/or the updates, or do you want it all to be free?

No i don't have any AV installed on my pc currently
I have tried Panda, couple more, can't remember their names
I'm just looking to get my pc protected from virus and all, In particular, I'm looking for a software that updates virus definations on its own

And off course it will be FREE! :-)
