i've had bad problems with xvid freezing...
i think k-lite codec pack helps it

use gspot(it's in the k-lite codec pack) it will tell you if you have the right codecs installed.

but it doesnt seem to work at the moment.

Try videoLAN or open it using VirtualDUB and see if there are any bad frames.

people use Xvid coz its better quality then divx

uh... no they're not.
XviD rules. its image quality and motion-handling are excellent, and it's no wonder that so many people rip movies with XviD.

The file you have is possibly corrupted.
Try opening it with a program like VirtualDub.
