Does this mean your all in favour of the Democracy they are crying for in Burma, Pakistan, Uzebekistan, Nepal, Kuwait? Or are these different, being against US interests...

Why wont the USA recognise the sovereignity of Taiwan? Thats a Democracy, and yet "Legally" its a terrorist State the USA sells weapons too.. but wont recognise as a country.

    Hypocracy... Pure Hypocracy...

    Its a One Party System...

However, in elections over 97% vote in favour of keeping the Communist Government.

The elections have in the past been monitored; and this result was judged to be correct..

The Americans, for their own reasons, dont believe in the Self Determination of Cuba... probably because they were thrown out of there by the Cubans that were being shafted by US companies.

There are free elections to local cells or Munincipal Seats.

Members that are Communist Party members are elegible to be voted to the National Assembly.

The National Assembly votes for the Government.

The Constitution of Cuba was formed in a referendum in 1976, in that referendum over 8 million voted to keep the one party system. (Population just over 11 million)

Anything is open for debate in Cuba except the system of Government. This would be changed if the National Assembly vote fell to less than 50% of those elegible to vote deciding they did not wish to vote for the communist candidate.

The USA is between a rock and a hard place, as despite its war on terrorism it will not hand over Cuban Terrorists for trial... even though those same bombs killed many europeans, its so called allies..

Their constitution is for a One Party System, speaking out against this is a "Crime".

Despite the propaganda, Cuba doesnt enforce this "Crime" very often..

I think they have about 350 people in jail out of a population of 11,000,000. These "Political" prisoners are classed the same as any others, and share the same prisons, and are mostly people that have been arrested and let off a number of times before some judge actually puts them in jail.

They are treated more like juvenile vandals in most other countries.. Jails a last resort.

The Governement doesnt really like the "Free Press" either, and does interfere with this.

Taken together, this gives the country a mere 7 in the "Free Country" stakes (not free). This makes it the same as about 26% of the worlds countries (plus 28% partly free)... however only 6% of the America's are "Not free" (plus 26% partly free) which makes it sensitive to the USA.

    To put this in perspective:

Uzbekistan, which the USA refuse to criticise scores 6.5 in the same stakes, Iraq in 2005 scores 6, and Afganistan in 2005 scores 5.5 .... Making ALL the above "Not Free". Source
