Thread: MPAA wins Wired Kids

  1. #1
Well I never thought I'd see the day but the MPAA is just gettin' kudos all around for their efforts to stop movie piracy. The MPAA are now the proud champions of the Wired Kids Award. This award was given out to the MPAA for their work and effort to stop online pornography and make aware the dangers of privacy and piracy.

An executive with E! Entertainment TV, armed with a 25 page pamphlet on the the proper and moral use of file downloading, joined a teacher and some 6th to 8th grade classes for a few lessons. Some kids said they had never knew what file sharing was. At the end of these "social" learning programs, near the end of the year, students were asked to write a paper on getting the word out about the illegality of downloading copyrighted material. Whoever writes the best essays gets a free trip to Hollywood and other notable prizes included free dvd players and free movies. What's oddly amusing about this program is that the MPAA gets to do this for free. It doesn't cost them a penny to run this program cause it's paid for by the taxpayers. Welcome to the U.S.A..

The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) proudly boasts it's the first recipient of the Wired Kids "Doing It Right" award

And ironically, it’s from Wired Kids, a US organization which, says the MPAA, exists "to raise awareness about online threats such as predators and pornography, as well as the potential dangers of privacy and piracy.

It's inappropriate to offer tips, gifts, and prizes in exchange for adults pushing a commercial agenda in the classroom," Melinda Anderson, spokeswoman for the National Education Association, is quoted as saying.

And yet Wired Kids, which says it's "very selective in choosing its sponsors and strategic partners," chooses to honour an unethical, totally self-serving, organization such as the MPAA.

Today I went shopping and bought some stuff, ended up spending $38 plus $1.34 tax. So that's where my $1.34 goes? To pay for stupid shit like this?
