i have figured that the stupid thing is causing file fragmentation

    Internet Explorer 5, 5.5
Note that Internet Explorer moves cookies to the new folder and the old folder is removed. Additionally, the following message is displayed when you attempt to move the Temporary Internet Files folder:
Warning: Moving the location of your Temporary Internet Files folder will delete all your subscription data.
    1. Create a new folder to store the files. For example, if you want to store the files in a folder named Ietemp on drive D, create the following folder:
    D:\Ietemp
For information about how to create a folder, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type new folder, and then double-click the "New Folders" topic.
    2. Start Internet Explorer.
    3. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    4. On the General tab, click Settings.
    5. Click Move Folder.
    6. Click the folder you created in Step 1.
    7. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK again.
    8. Restart your computer.

Hey can't one setup to delete IE temp files, when you close the program ? I think its in internet settings advanced . I think move temp folder is there aswell. Made me think of how much I love the ccleaner type of programs. I know the post was about moving browser temp folder but............ You can set ccleaner and many others to run at start up or anytime for that matter.

this is appreciated but this is not what im asking for

im asking about moving the windows temp frolder
    not not the internet one

    THIS> C:\Doc and Set\%username%\Local Settings\Temp
    NOT THIS> C:\Doc and Set\%username%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

    theres a difference
i have moved that internet one a while ago
(dispite the fact i never use IE any way)

i remember back in the days i was able to move the windows temp folder with win98
so im sure 2000/XP can do the same

Im using xppro but if you use a program like registry detective http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,73719,00.asp
    and search for \Local Settings\Temp

in xp youll get these quit a few results
you will have to change all their paths
(i did not find a simple solution on google...)

Control Panel -- System -- Advanced Tab.

    Click on "Environment Variables"

The top part of the window shows User variables, and should have entries for TEMP and TMP, both pointing to the Windows Temp Directory.

Simply edit both values and change the path to that which you require...

Edit: I see above that you've solved your own problem... sorry...
