bringing a phone from usa to canada

does anyone know
if i get a z500 cingular from (ebay) the usa and sign up with fido in canada will fido accept or will they just grin at me because they're losing a phone sale?

In the UK, phones are usually discounted by the service providers so providing your own phone actually saves them money. The actual cost of the phone is much higher than you pay but they get it back on the contract.

Assuming the same is true in Canada, you should even be able to get a better tarriff because they don't have to pay towards the cost of the phone.
