Thread: Advice--->Buying laptop

  1. #1
Im going to college on September, and my school tells me I need a laptop.
They wanted me to buy their laptop, IBM ThinkPad R51, the price is about $1, 827.35 CAD including tax.

    Pentium M 725 (1.6Ghz)
    512 MB RAM (1DIMM)
    60 GB HDD
    14.1' TFT Display
32 MB ATI Mobility RADEON 9000 video chipset
    Built-in 10/100/1000 Network Card
    Built-in 56K Flex V.92 modem
    Built-in Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 b/g
    2 USB 2.0 port
    Parallel port, S-video port
    Audio In/Out port
    TrackPoint and TouchPad
    Firewire

I was wondering if I can get a laptop equivalent or better than that, but cost less. I need some advice.

I dont know if you view the link and its already customized or not but here it is

    Dell Inspiron 9300

Its a Dell Inspiron 9300 with equivalent:

    CPU, Ram, and Hard Drive

    It has better:

Graphics, Screen, and probably CD Drive

I dont do a lot of research about laptops so other people may have better suggestions, but this one looks better then the one up there

EDIT: ok I thought it was cheaper but now I see that price is CAD...but this computer is about the same price and is much better

don't get ibm. they're pointlessly expensive and u can get the same for so much cheaper

try dell and some 3rd party manufacturers, like ibuypower.com or cyberpowerpc.com

IBMs are the best tho, if u ever go to buy a used laptop like a p2 or p3 all ur going to see is IBMs because they are just so reliable

if u want something that will last go for an IBM, best laptops.

Company in laptops does matter because ur not custom building them like computers so u can choose what parts you want to put in...

also remember if u get a cheapy laptop, make sure u get 3yr warranty
