Maybe, but would you like to live in a place where trying to go to work on the Tube may end up with massive panic because of some idiot trying to blow himself up? Security is needed heavily in the Tube, at least for a few months untill all settles down once again, that's what I make of it..

By security, I'm guessing you mean bag-searches, armed guards, etc?

Here are some fact and figures illustrating the scale of the problem.

    • Total number of tube stations is 275
    • Total number of tube trains is 3954
    • Total length of tube track is 253 miles (408 km)
    • Length of tube track underground is 113 miles
    • Total number of escalators is 410
    • Total number of lifts (elevators) is 102
    • Total number of staff is 12,366
    • Total number of passenger trips per year (2002/2003) is 942 million (That's about 2.5 million journeys per day!)
    • Total number of individual passengers per year (2002/2003) is 19 million
    • 150,000 people an hour enter the Tube system
    • During the three-hour morning peak, 34,000 people enter Victoria (London's busiest Tube station)

I've been through Victoria at peak time, and it's not pretty I can tell you. There's NO WAY you could do bag searches without causing MASSIVE disruption, also I know there's nearly as many passengers get on and off at Oxford Circus and Kings Cross.

I'm all for a bit of extra security, such as a more visible police force at stations; maybe security guards on trains, panic buttons, etc, but if someone is determined to blow themselves up (and they've got a working explosive), they are going to find a way to do it.

I don't know what the answer is, but draconian security measures are not it. We have to try and solve this at source, why have these people been so twisted and manipulated and coerced into "spending" themselves in this way? This is not just a problem for the UK, but for everywhere.

Thing is, with no extra security which will cause major hangups as you said, people could easily kill 50 odd people daily, with no end in sight.

They did it in the US, I think it is time they started doing it in Britain.
Security on the Tube will be great. Major forces around the city will also be good. It will also decrease unemployment as I said much earlier, and in general, once again it will keep these nutters away, or at least make their "job" a lot more difficult.

Mmk in that case they should be shot.

Mentalists are normal. However some of them may not be normal mentalists.

I think the most frightening thing I saw on the TV the other night. An Islamic Extremist was being interviewed. He was asked if their could be any grounds for negotiation to end the hostilites. He replied we will not end hostilities until Britain is an Fundamental Islamic State.
