Thread: NTL upload limit

  1. #1
I tried to search this on NTL website but did not find any thing.

With some NTL packages, the monthly download usage is 3GB

Similarly, does NTL also impose any upload restriction. For instance, can I upload as much as I want in a month, or is there any restriction?????????????????????

I was on the 1Mb download, and my max upload was 20k

I am now on 2Mb download and my max upload is 20k right now

Unless they are just restricting me?

I'm on the 2Mb just now, my max upload is about 24kB. Last month i was on the 3Mb and my max upload was about 35kB.

I don't know if it's just me but since the recent download speed upgrades i've had to limit my upload speed more to get a half decent download speed.

    same here

I'am beginning to think they restrict the upload speed so you don't go over your 30Gb monthly

I can't ask them because they will check my stats
and i know i am over my Limit now

I think you folks are confusing upload speeds with bandwidth.

Upload speeds slower than download speeds is simply a feature of ADSL, in fact it is what the A stands for - Assymetric, in other words not identical in each direction.

It is quite common for upload speeds to remain static while download speeds go up, but not even NTL could restrict you to 20kb/s. I suspect you mean 20KB/s (bytes) which is equivalent to 160kb/s (bits). However, that's not a speed I've ever seen used, so it is more likely to be 128kb/s or 256kb/s.

Going back to reminder's original question about bandwidth, it is usual for the limit to apply to exactly that, in other words the limit is the total of both the amount downloaded and the amount uploaded. If you look you'll see it says 3GB (or 30GB) usage allowance, not download allowance. I don't know how strict they are at watching that though.

All in all, the NTL package looks a little expensive. £10.50 minimum phone package, same as BT; £11.00 for Sky One, Discovery and British Eurosport (I get the rest free anyway); and £24.99 for 2Mbps with a 30GB cap, same as I pay but I have no cap; or £17.99 for 1Mbps with a 3GB cap, I have friends who pay £14.99 for 2Mbps with a 3GB cap.
