yeah i know this should be in the internet section, but people take for ever to reply there and its just a simple question. my adsl line got upgraded the other day, and it should have been upgraded to 1mb, but it says its at 2.2mb
im not complaining, but someone told me that it can still be at 1mb and that the computer is just saying its at 2mb.

ive been able to download stuff, and have hit speeds of over 200kb, but thats as far as its gone so far. ive one download going at 190kb atm. can anyone tell me if this is a 1mb line or 2mb line please? thanks in advance

1MB line would be able to do 120kb/s (Roughly) at the max. Anything over and your pc is either reading it wrong or you do have faster than you think. 2MB would do roughly 240kb/s.

1Mb connection is 1024/8 = 128Kb/s. Meaning his max is 128kb/s, however due to overheads his real max is about 121kb/s.

    180kb/s is a 1.5Mb connection.

I use to have 1Mb, then was upgraded to 1.5Mb and then to 3Mb so i know how fast each are

    2.2 megabit connection here with 263.8 kb/s
The service actually fluctuates speed wise because I did the same test 4 times previously on different months and I have got speeds of 250kb/s, 280kb/s, 320kb/s, and even 347kb/s once. Strange.

    I have SBC Yahoo
maybe it's due to my internet acceleration that TuneUp Utilities performed.. I'm gonna restore the defaults and see what happends.. I'll update you guys.

On BT lines, the currently available full rate ADSL speeds are 576kb/s, 1152kb/s (shows as 1.1mb/s) and 2304kb/s (shows as 2.2mb/s), but are nominally 0.5meg, 1meg and 2meg.
However, the ISP may cap them to a lower data rate, especially at peak times.

So exo_body has a 2meg ADSL line, but may have his data rate capped.
