You can easily remove the password on the MSIE Content Advisor, Without
the need for a reinstall or anything of the sort.
Beware- the following procedure involves the use of the Windows Registry
Editor. Changing values in the Windows Registry can seriously impact the
usefulness of your computer. Proceed with caution, and touch nothing but
the lamp.
Go to the Windows Start Menu, and select Run.
In the Run dialog, enter "regedit" (sans quotes), and press return.
You will see a hierarchy, similar to the hierarchy displayed in the
Windows Explorer. Instead of being composed of files on your computer, the
hierarchy is composed of Registry keys. Each branch of the hierarchy has a
small plus sign next to it which can be used to expand the tree.
Click (single left click) the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to
expand that branch
(at times in the following steps, you may find it necessary to scroll down
within the hierarchy to locate the key mentioned)
Navigate your way through the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Policies
Ratings
You should now see, in the panel on the Right side of the screen, two
Key-Value pairs.
(Default) (value not set)
Key [string of hexadecimal]
Click once on the word "Key" to hilight it.
Press the delete (not the backspace) key.
Answer Yes when it asks you if you wish to delete the value.
Close the Registry Editor by clicking the close button in the upper right
hand corner, or by choosing Exit from the Registry menu.
Congratulations! Assuming all is right in the world, you have successfully
reset the password for MSIE Content Advisor. The next time you try con
turn Content Advisor on or off, or change it's settings, it should prompt
you for a new password, without requiring that you have knowledge of the
old password.
