The DS is backwards compatible so your mom can play Advance games on DS. You do have a cool mom. Still the Sp isn't a bad choice its pretty cheap now its cool because its small and stuff. Info on DS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DS

i'd get the DS for the DS games. any games before GBA won't work but GBA ones do, and most of the good gameboy/gameboy color games have been remade for GBA or DS anyway.

Agree with Dave here, the second one is the same as the first just a different shape and has a rechargeable battery built in.

The 3rd picture plays all your old games and all the new ones for years to come.

The SP also has a built in backlight, which i hear improves visibility a lot.

Not that much really, it also helps drain the battery alot quicker. With the SP as well because you cannot use normal AA battery's once the in built thing has run out you have to charge, witht he old GBA you could take like 6 rechargable AA battery's on a trip and play for like 20 hours. Once you've played for 6 hours yu have to spent 6 recharging it.

But you can play whilst charging...besides, 6 hours is more than enough in one sitting young man ...its bound to give you RSI or eye strain....tsk tsk.
