im going to downgrade from windows xp to windows 2000.
what is the best way to format my hard drive for a clean install of windows 2000?

Boot with the windows 2000 setup CD-rom.
Delete and create partition. Format with NTFS.

Why do u wanna do that?
I dont see any reason unles u have an extremely slow PC. Well, I have a P3, 500MHz, 128 RAm and I used to run 98. The PC ran ok, kinda slow. I put XP and now runs like .. 5 times better ...

im puting it on my laptop 550mhz pIII, 6 gb hard drive, 64 ram, 4mb video

Say no more ,
As ariel said boot from cd rom . May have to enter bios to set up tho.
