At a guess, he joined to read all the useful and helpful posts we have here, but just didn't want to engage with the likes of us on a social level

This is a good point, why should our accounts get deleted if we don't post...thats discrimination...whats wrong with joining to read? My girlfriend received a letter recently threatening to delete her account too, as she had not posted in about two years... she might have lost her fingers or be suffering from paralysis.
Perhaps it might be a good idea, to ask for a doctors certificate from non-posters before deleting their account?
