The Hot Zone, while not by Michael Crichton, is thematically similiar to The Andromeda Strain, and if I'm recalling correctly (it's been a few Long Islands ), was a much more entertaining read.

things are quiet until hitler decides he'd like to invade russia
    so, he does
the russians are like "OMG WTF D00DZ, STOP TKING"
and the germans are still like "omg ph34r n00bz"
the russians fall back, all the way to moscow
and then they all begin h4xing, which brings on the russian winter
the germans are like "wtf, h4x"

He is a great author although I never got around to reading Airframe and Rising Sun. It didn't interest me for some reason.

I'm a big fan of Crichton, too. I collected all his books on my site and strongly recommend anyone to read them all. They really worth it.

The Andromeda Strain was a fun read

Yes, in an age of appallingly ill-informed writers who churn out sensational and mind-numbing fiction, Crichton stands tall as an author who actually knows what he is writing about.

Has anyone read the article 'THIS ESSAY BREAKS THE LAW' published in the NYT?

Quite literally tall, too; he is 6'9".
