Clocker is a member of fst staff, and very knowledgable on this type of stuff.
I'm sure the real FST staff would be surprised to hear that.
I'm NOT a staff member, just an opinionated old fart.
Oops, thought you were, should've checked before I posted.

@ Clocker Thanks you so much for the helpful answer. Do you have a recommendation for me? I might even splurge for the ddr2 ram but I still don't need a hard drive.

For a limited budget, here's an example of what I'd do...

You can play around with your mobo and vid card choice, but you get the basic idea. All those total to $500. Use your old case and maybe even hard drive(s) and optical drive(s).

If you need to buy a new hard drive, then go here for a windows xp crack kit. It will make M$ say that your software is genuine.

The trick to a successful build is knowing beforehand where you want to end up.
Exactly what kind of PC do you want?
For example...if it's to be a gaming machine, how likely are you to invest in SLI- do you need two PCIe ports or not?
How much RAM do you foresee getting?
If 2GB ( a really sweet number these days) should you start with a 1GB stick or 2x512.

    Etc., etc., etc.

Okay basically I wanted to use my old ddr ram 2 gig 1gig x 2, so my mobo options were limited. I don't do any gaming so I don't even need a video card I realized after playing around It is the same price ( $400 ish budget ) to get new ddr2 ram 1 gig with a better mobo. I would LOVE a recommendation on a cheap decent mobo with 4 ram slots ddr2
