Excluding ME as a little weak,
Looks like win2k is the winner. The next question is- Can you get the drivers to make it perform at peak. You can, but it can take some trial and error.
the good thing about win2k is if you try a game and it doesn't work well or has startup errors, It doesn't hide the program and get buggy like XP does and crash.
Mac OS - No just kidding.

Windows 98 SE is actually a little faster for gaming than any other Windows OS.
However, its lead is slowly diminishing due to continuing optimisations for Windows XP. WinXP is probably the best way to go for future-proofing.
Same here. Window XP is the choice here.Originally posted by ilw@16 June 2003 - 09:28
I've heard that 2000 has problems running qutie a few games
If you like playing older games or classic games, then you should keep as Win98, but if you want to be more like future proof then you must get WinXP for sure.
win2000 is the best gaming os, if your game crashes you can just load it back up, on winme 98 etc you have to reboot...
windows 2000 also doesnt have the graphics glitch that winxp has, example on XP playing VICE CITY the data doesnt always load and you ram a wall, then 5 seconds later it appears, on 2000 it works perfectly...
I have 2 back XP up here it works great for all types of games....
for older games use 98SE, for newer games use XP
