From what i read this seems a very good tip.I'm a 56k'er but not for much longer.Getting broadband in at the weekend so i will be using this tip, thanks.
Why wait?

TCPOptimizer has special settings which can specifically help 56k's too!

1 word of warning: you'll need to REDUCE the number of simultaneous connections made to websites at once on the 2nd page of TCPOptimizer -- ESPECIALLY if using Win 9x/ME!

I set mine to 4.

I think that it's beneficial to take the speed test several times before tweaking - keep in mind that you can only take it 3 times per hour- and average the results. Speed on any internet connection is not constant, it is variable due to many factors.

Average your results and then optimize.
Average those results and then compare.

Not very scientific but probably good enough to tell if you've made a difference.

You can optimise this setting and others using TCPOptimizer.
if i want to afterwards, how can i reset my defaults and in effect untweak it?

It wont do anything for a 56k connection only broadband.....sorry!
If you use to have 56k and tweaked registry settings and used other patches,u should remove these also........before or after applying this tweak.

@Kazaaliterock if u still want to do it manualy it's in the parameter's folder between searshlist and usedomainname.
Bleh. I think I'll just go with the app, because there's no key even resembling "TCP Receive Window" in that location...

P.S. I'm running Windows XP Pro/Corp

[edit]: Woooow... After downloading and running TCP Optimizer, and setting the receive window to the value provided here, my speed jumped from roughly 220kB/s to around 280kB/s. I'm impressed.

I did notice that TCP Optimizer had different "profiles". The one for Cable/DSL sets the receive window to a much larger value. Would that improve speed any more, or is it just overkill? [/b][/quote]
are u broadband or 56k? use the autofix on PC Pitstop if you are,and don't want to edit the registry.
I just thought of something are u new to editing the registry?
If u are did u double click on the parameters folder? When u tried to use the tip editing the registry.

Hey......This tip was meant to bring a 1mb broadband connection up to 2mb or 3-4 mb connection.......If your buffer settings are to high in the TCP Receive Window u can cause problems....such as more packets to be retransmitted when a transmission error occurs. Possibly shuting down the window.

Peace brotherdoobie
