DDR vs. DDR2

hi. currently i have in my comp 2 × 512 ram ddr.
is ddr2 any different?
i mean, will it fit into my 2 years old motherboard?

Yes it makes a big difference DDR2 ram has a different amount of pins (different size) only later motherboards say after the pentium4 with a 3 ghz processor and later support this type of RAM, what you have is most likely DDR-333 SDRAM PC-2700 or DDR-400 PC-3200 both of which are compatible.

Its newer and most are using now , its called supply and demand . Have you looked at sdram prices .

Demand makes up most of the difference.
DDR is also harder to manufacture because of its higher density.

Right now, ddr3 is just entering the market and is very expensive because of the low demand for it. Although performance compared to ddr2 is negligible, the density of the chips will make its future manufacture cost a fraction of that of ddr2. I've seen predictions that in under a year with increased demand 4gigs of ddr3 will sell for under $100.
